Summer Volunteer Opportunities
Are
you looking for a way to connect with your inner-environmentalist? Like to spend
time outside doing things that help the Huron River? Have we got options for
you! Go to the "Volunteer" page of our website at www.hrwc.org/text/volunteer
or read on to learn more.
HRWC has scheduled a busy spring and summer of stream monitoring, native
plantings, natural area assessments, public outreach, and just plain old fun!
Help with a variety of activities throughout the watershed including:
• Collecting
water samples and taking flow measurements
• Learning
to measure and map the river
• Collecting
river bugs
• Taking
the river’s temperature
• Planting
native plant “Grow Zones”
• Performing
field assessments on natural areas
• Helping
out at a local event where we talk to the public about the river like the
Huron River Canoe Challenge, our Community River Swim, Huron River Day, or the
Ypsilanti Heritage Festival
Dates start as early as May 2 for a training on how to field assess natural
areas and run through September. Time commitments vary by type of activity
but can be as few as 1-2 hours on a single day.
Our "Volunteer" page, www.hrwc.org/text/volunteer,
has all the details, including who to contact to sign up. Bookmark the page as
we’ll be updating it when new opportunities arise!
